When I first started building my email list, I was helping startups grow their businesses online by using social media. I didn’t enjoy creating content for other people’s sites, and I found that my writing was the most valuable thing I could be creating.
That’s when I decided to build an email list around everything I’m interested in. That means talking about psychology, philosophy, marketing, travel, sex, finance, whatever I feel like!
The reason I picked that was because it got me started instead of worrying about the topic I was going to focus on.
Fast-forward 18 months and I’ve built an email list of 6,452 subscribers.
I’m now in the process of writing my first book!
How did you do it?
I got my first 100 subscribers by doing 1 thing. I did a giveaway of some of my favorite books. It brought in my first 312 subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of my giveaway:
Currently my list is at 6,452 subscribers.
I went from 100 to 6,452 subscribers by doing one thing: blogging about topics I love.
Since I’m interested in a variety of topics, I didn’t know which one to start with, but I didn’t want to delay taking action. I started blogging every week about subjects that I love because I knew I would attract others who had similar interests.
Here are a few of my favorite and highest performing blog posts to date:
I’m now excited to be writing my first book on the topic of sex. I started this project because I couldn’t find the resources I was looking for. As I started writing, I noticed my friends enjoying my content and saw as many as 2,000 readers per day reading my work.
I’m excited to finish this project and get it published.
What has building an email list changed in your life and allowed you to do?
Having an email list has given me some initial bump on traffic to my articles, and now that I’m writing a book it’s excellent for getting feedback on the pieces I’m writing.
When the book launches, I imagine it will be helpful for some initial traction and getting the word out–to help start the flywheel, so to speak.
What’s next for you?
Moving forward means focusing on 3 things:
Whatever I feel like!
