When I first started building my list, I was a publicist. I still am! I also teach business school at New York University.
I started my list 8+ years ago but never used it. It took me 8+ years to get 10k subscribers. But since I didn’t want to spend the next 8 years getting another 10k subscribers, I decided to reengage my list because I want to launch my own course soon.
That’s when I decided to reengage and keep growing my list.
Fast-forward 8 years and I’d built a list of 11,780 subscribers.
How did you do it?
I got my first 100 subscribers by doing one thing. I had my assistant gather a list of all the relevant brands that could benefit from my newsletter.
She put together a spreadsheet of 5k. I drafted an email and sent it out, inviting them to join my list.
If they joined my list, then they were entered into a 7-day email sequence on PR.
On the last day of the sequence, I included a pitch for my “Perfect Pitch Package.”
Here’s an example of the email I drafted:
This resulted in a HUGE amount of new subscribers.
I also held a bundle package giveaway that resulted in 350 new subscribers.
Here’s a screenshot of that giveaway:
I also installed an upside-down homepage on my site. This helped grow my list as well. I don’t have an exact number, but I know it’s helped a lot!
Currently my list is at 11,780 subscribers.
What has building an email list changed in your life and allowed you to do?
Not much in terms of family, but it’s grown my audience and helped generate additional revenue through my business.
What’s next for you?
I’m spending all of my time focused on three things:
ConvertKit and MailChimp
