When I first started building my email list, I was a software engineer, and the startup I was part of was acquired by Google. All the sudden I was out of a job, but I discovered one of my biggest passions and skills was helping startups with PR.
That’s when I decided to build an email list around the topic of PR growth strategies.
I picked that subject because I could no longer do the 9-to-5 lifestyle, and I knew I was good at PR because of the acquisitions that followed the implementation of my strategies.
Fast-forward 18 months and I had built a list of 15,831 subscribers.
My email list now earns $10,411 on average each month and my new course is in the middle of a launch that wraps up soon.
How did you do it?
You’ll find out exactly how many subscribers that post has earned in a second 🙂
When you scroll to the bottom of that post, you see this short paragraph positioning the content upgrade:
Currently my list is at 15,831 subscribers.
I went from 100 to 15,831 subscribers by doing two things: 1) search engine optimization, and 2) guest posts.
I’ve learned that having your articles show up on the first page of Google is one of the best ways to get quality traffic to your publications over a long period of time.
Some elements that play a major role in getting your content ranked are:
Those are just a few of many things that Google and other search engines take into account.
If you Google the term “cold email” you’ll see my post in the fourth position:
That post alone has earned me 1,529 subscribers total simply because people are searching for help with sending cold emails and my content answers their question and more.
If you have the time to build relationships, then guest posting is an incredible way to build your email list. When done perfectly, guest posts send traffic to your website and build your list at the same time.
The same post that earned me my first 100 subscribers has brought in a total of 4,037 subscribers since it’s been published over one year ago.
My new course, “PR That Converts,” just launched and will close on August 6, 2016. It contains everything I’ve learned about getting mainstream attention to startups.
What has building an email list changed in your life and allowed you to do?
I was burned out on the 9-to-5 lifestyle before I started building my email list. Now my email list allows me to work where and when I want and earn a great living in the process.
It’s also allowed me to connect with people like Tim Ferriss (author of The 4 Hour Workweek), Noah Kagan (founder of AppSumo and SumoMe), Matt Mullenweg (founder of Automattic and WordPress), and many others.
You can find all of my interviews here.
What’s next for you?
Moving forward means focusing on 3 things:
Wife + 2 Kids
PR & SEO
Videofruit enabled me to run my own profitable business working on what I want, when I want it, and earning a great living doing so. Before I found Videofruit I would build a product or service and go on a wild goose chase to find customers for it. Now I build a list, ask them what they want, build it, and sell it to them.
