When I first started building my list, I was I running a pay-per-click management company.
I enjoyed it, but I knew I wanted something more.
That’s when I decided to start building an email list about guest blogging and content promotion. I loved the idea of “growth hacking” and wanted to learn how to do it myself.
Fast-forward 11 months and I’d built a list of 31,598 subscribers.
Now I’m full-time with my online business and loving it!
How did you do it?
I got my first 100 subscribers by doing two things.
First, I optimized my home page so that every visitor was presented with the opportunity to join my list and download my free e-book when they landed on my site.
This got me my first few subscribers, from people clicking on my social profile links and through word of mouth.
Second, I started using content upgrades on every post.
This works well because people who read my posts and want more can opt in and get a bonus that I include with each post.
Here is one example of how I offer content upgrades:
Since then, my list has grown to 20,212 through giveaways, influencer outreach, and a couple other strategies. The two that have worked best are: 1) the Vacuum Formula, and 2) guest posting.
The Vacuum Formula
I got this technique straight from the Videofruit blog.
I started writing how-to posts for my blog but I had hardly any eyes to read it. That’s a big problem.
So I followed the formula by finding other similar posts, noting who shared those posts on social media, and then manually reaching out to people who shared, to tell them about my post.
This helped me get beyond the 1,0000-subscribers point as I repeated the formula with each post. It takes time, but it’s totally worth it.
I use the Vacuum Formula for nearly every post now and send emails to 750 to 1500 people before publishing a new post. By writing epic content and applying the Vacuum Formula, I get at least 400 to 500 email subscribers per post.
A few posts have earned over 1,000 email subscribers each.
I had a goal to get to 10,000 email subscribers so that I could launch my first course.
Getting to that milestone meant that I needed to go where heavy concentrations of my target audience were already hanging out. When I began my journey online, I knew that I would need to learn how to guest post, and I was excited because I saw how many other people were wondering how to do this effectively.
I started by making a list of sites that covered marketing online and started figuring out the best way to get my content featured on their sites.
This resulted in guests posts on sites like:
What has building an email list changed in your life and allowed you to do?
I’m proud to say that I’m well on my way to the journey I set out on: learning effective growth hacking for online businesses and sharing it with the world.
What’s next for you?
Since I’ve stayed focused on guest posting, the Vacuum Formula, and other strategies like giveaways, I’ve grown my list to 31,598.
When I met my goal of 10,000 subscribers I launched my first course, Guest Posting That Converts, which did $13,499 in sales!
I’m excited at how things have shaped up and I look forward to launching my course to my whole list.
I’ll be spending all of my time focused on three things:
As a result of Videofruit, I was able to start a new email list from 0 and rapidly grow it to 10,000s of subscribers over the course of a year and start a successful blog in a competitive niche from scratch. I also was able to launch 2 courses off the back of that email list
