How to schedule email in Gmail (it’s like Buffer for your inbox)

GIVEAWAY

My brain works on it’s own schedule.

Sometimes I’m awake at 4:00 am and I think of an email I want to send a client. The problem is, I know if I send it then the chances of it being answered are extremely low.

It will get buried in the mornings email.

But if I wait until the optimal time I will forget to send it.

What to do? What to do?

I kept noticing this issue over and over again.

  • I needed to send an email to remind the wife to get groceries on her way home, but it was 8am.
  • I needed to send a cold email to a potential client, but it was 11pm.
  • I wanted to followup on a quote, but it’s only been 2 hours since I sent the quote.

Then it occurred to me…”What if I could schedule my email to send later!?”

Enter Google…

That is when I ran across RIght Inbox. It’s a lightweight Chrome extension that allows you to schedule your emails to send at anytime.

It adds a little button at the bottom of your compose window in Gmail.

sendlater

Using it is simple:

  1. Write your email
  2. Press ‘Send later’
  3. Choose your time
  4. Done

Then it is sent to the Draft’s folder. Once the time comes for the email to be delivered it sends automatically.

I’ve been using it for over a year now and Iam a massive fan.

Best time of day to send an email

Ton’s of research and testing has been done to see what time of day is the best to send emails. Buffer wrote an article about this recently that discovered there is no single magic time.

However, based on the type of email you are sending and the person you are sending it to, you can optimize your sending time to increase you response rate.

I’d recommend clicking over and reading their entire post here.

What does it look like in action?

For more details on how to install it and exactly how it works, I recorded a short video for you.
